Being overweight can increase your cancer risk

You can lower your risk of cancer by enjoying a healthy diet, being physically active everyday and maintaining a healthy body weight.

Studies show that being overweight, physically inactive, and not eating well increases your risk of cancer.

Being overweight can also contribute to many other conditions such as

Type 2 diabetes

and many other conditions

25% of children are classed as overweight or obese

Being overweight can increase your risk of developing certain types of cancer such as

Bowel cancer

Best cancer (post-menopausal)

Cancers of the endometrium

Kidney cancer

Oesophagus cancer

 

Am I overweight or obese?

The body mass index (BMI) is a measurement to assess peoples body weight. A score over 25 is classes as overweight and a score over 30 is obese.

What to expect from a healthy heart check?

·         Your doctor will assess your risk factors:

  • Your blood pressure

  • Your cholesterol

  • Your blood sugar levels

  • Your physical activity

  • Your diet

  • If you smoke

  • If you drink alcohol

  • Family history

  • Your ability to maintain a healthy weight

Using this information the doctor will asses your risk of having a stroke or heart attack in the next 5 years and set a plan to improve your heart health
